about me

Hi! My name is Nicholas Campbell but I go by Nick. I’m 28 and I’ve been playing with cameras since 2012.

I specialize in portrait, senior, boudoir, and fine art/nude photography, and wedding, event, and sports videos.

I started my photography career taking senior photos of friends in high school with a Canon T3i, along with making fun videos for the band program. I went to Elk River High School where I took a couple photography and video classes, though my main focus was on band, I played trumpet! My time in high school was mostly spent marching with the 728 Cadets Marching Band, with photography and video taking a back burner. I was able to combine my interested and take some pretty cool photos and videos of the band!

After graduating from high school in 2014 I moved on to Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota and upgraded to a Sony A7s II and DJI Mavic Pro. After a failed attempt at a psychology major, I learned that Gustavus offers the option to design your own major and cameras came back into my spotlight! The rest of my four years of college consisted of film courses, theatre production, filming sports for the Sports Information Office, creating video content for the college with the Marketing Office, and tutoring other students with photo and video stuff. During this time I was able to connect my passions again and start working with River City Rhythm Drum and Bugle Corps as the corps photographer and videographer. With their yearly tours around the Midwest, ending at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, I’m always looking forward to August!

The summer after my graduation in 2018 was uneventful. Once fall came around (after RCR’s tour of course) I accepted a position with a production company called Mighteor and spent a year there experiencing the more team and studio side of content creation. Unfortunately there wasn’t as much production as both they and I would like, so the position became more editing based and we parted ways. Since then I’ve been working as a freelance photographer and videographer! More recently I’ve upgraded to a DJI Mavic Air 2S and a Canon EOS R3, so many more opportunities to create amazing art with nice equipment.

Gustavus turned from a wonderful educational establishment to a wonderful client, I’ve been able to spend so much more time on campus than I expected continuing to work with the Marketing Office, filming entire movies with the Theatre Department, and having a blast creating sports highlight videos with Sports Information. Other clients I’ve been able to work with, either independently or through other contractors, are the U of M Medical School, Alexander Mattison’s clothing line: I Am Gifted, Minnesota Music Educators Association, Furman University in South Carolina, Aegir Brewing Company, McTigue Productions, and more!

Few fun facts; absolutely love watching movies, and super nerdy about Marvel, specifically the MCU. I spend most of my free time either watching movies, on YouTube, or listening to Dungeons and Dragons or True Crime podcasts (Adventure Zone & My Favorite Murder). I get a lot of inspiration from YouTube; Corridor Digital, Casey Neistat, Peter McKinnon, and Mark Rober to name a few. But you can’t JUST be productive on YouTube, I watch a lot of Rocket League YouTubers, and play a fair amount of Rocket League myself! Books are a great escape also, The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan, Mistborn/Stormlight Archive/all other Brandon Sanderson novels, and World War Z by Max Brooks to throw some zombies into the mix. And finally, huge fan of tattoos, I’ve lost count of how many I have and don’t plan on stopping soon! Anything else you want to know??
